acheton  ,  BitGuard  is  the  only  firewall of  the  list  that I've never tried .

It  seems  an  interesting  product  and   when I contacted them in the past  they almost assured  me about  BitGuard's compatibility with the majority of FWs in the market - to be used *with* other FW installed , both running together - as a consequence of its specific design .

As I really don't  like  the  idea of two FWs installed I never tried it . But  I  would  also like to know  if  someone used BG , alone or as a second FW .

   Thanks  ,

On the contrary  of  AVs and ATs  , I think that FWs   deserve  more  user's  attention .
AVs and ATs   generally come with a  relatively  safe default setting , so if the users update , scan and use common sense  the probability of problems is low .
But  with FWs  ,  users  can : allow the wrong outgoing/incoming  , give to apps excessive   rights  etc -  and if  it's a rules-based FW  many other messes  are  possible .
My opinion is  that  , mainly in the case of firewalls , knowledge is  indeed  important .

here is one link for downloading the kerio kpf 2.15 firewall: http://lists.gpick.com/crashsite/downloads/kerio215.zip (i don't think that you can download it from the kerio site any longer, unless you know a link for it, which is not posted at the kerio site)

If anyone is interested. Here are two gateway firewalls if you have a spare low end computer and 2 nics. Both are free programs and are based on Linux.

The IPCop one looks good - already includes a bunch of ADSL adapters (like the popular but flaky Alcatel one). I didn't see the SmoothWall one mention this so prominently, but it's no problems to recompile a 2.4 kernel to include support - I've used an Alcatel SpeedTouch adapter (squashed frog - forerunner of the 330) on SuSE Linux 8 this way. This way, an old notebook PC can be used - USB ADSL and either onboard or PCMCIA card LAN for the protected system, linked to a hub or switch.

Just about to try a 2.6 kernel version of Mandrake (v10), so it'll be interesting to see how much the adapter support has moved on in these last two iterations.

I recently left Sygate Pro (thanks to its demise and purchase by Symantec), but found a really good firewall by Danware.  NetOp Desktop Firewall (current version is 3.0) may be downloaded here:  http://www.crossteccorp.com/.  A fully-functional version of the firewall may be downloaded and tested for free for 30 days.  I bought it (it is a bit expensive), so all I had to do was register it and no uninstall/reinstall was necessary.  Hope someone lets me know what they think about this firewall.  Thanks.  CHUCK

Edit:  Please ignore this post.  Corporate changes have left the firewall absent from the above-posted Crosstec site.  Oh well...  Comodo it shall be...  CHUCK

Mozar (& others)--

I recently installed 8Signs, so far--GREAT. I'm using the 30-day trial now.

I may be back, shortly, with some questions about 8Signs; I'm in the process of setting up a new computer, together with software I've not used previously (Firefox & XP Pro, for example).
