A question to ZA's users

  Hello ,

As I know that some ZA's users are between us I have a question to you.
   My favorite FW is "LOOKnSTOP 2.03" , but I have also licenses of "BlackIce 3.5" , "NIS2002" , "Sygate PRO 5 " and "ZA PLUS 3.1" .

My question :When I was testing  "ZA PLUS 3.1" with "SpyStopper 2.01" even if I did block SpyStopper (client & server rights) this program still worked --- it did filter everything (scripts, cookies, restricted sites etc) as it was not blocked by "ZA PLUS" .
Isn't  odd blocking  "SpyStopper" and even so it works as it  was allowed  ?

If someone wish to confirm this issue, there is a trialware of "SpyStopper " to download ( don't worry it is stable , uninstalls fine and does not conflict with AVs ,FWs or , of course ,TrojanHunter )  here is the link :

There was some question about this issue with AIM and a couple other products, the problems seems to be resolved once you delete your database settings and re-establish them then ZA no longer gives a free pass to previous programs.  I don't know if this is an upgrade related bug yet, but it does not seem to be limited to one program but any program where this database corruption has occured in the upgrade.  Here is a link for the steps to correct:

Mozar, you and I have all ready discussed this but here it is for everyone else.
Quote:
AFAIK SpyBlocker does not need to ever access the Internet unless updating it's files. Therefore, you can block it all you want but it is running against things on the local machine. The last time I had to answer this question, it was for SpyBotz, which I use here - exact same situation (I watched it to be sure).

IF, however, it can self-update, then there may be a database corruption, as you mentioned

  Thank  you  ,  Jamming

One thing I really  don't understand is why ZoneLabs has never estimulated the creation of  a  ZA's Forum . The  users of  "Kerio" do have an excellent one at DSL , another at Yahoo and a really useful and updated FAQ .
Jamming , even if  exist also Teams X , Y and W you will never be enough for millions of ZA's users .

Cool
Don't I know it!!!!!!  we will never be enough but we are there to try and get peoples questions to the right people and we also work on making sure that ZA is getting all the Customer Feedback.

In fact, I know at least two Zonelabs Employees have decided to buy Magnus' Trojan_Hunter and occassionally comes here to read things in this Forum.  One of the things I do is point out Forums that have good opinions and non-repetative bashing posts.  The other things I and other Team-Z members do is provide our observations on what is going on in the Boards we are on.

Finally, we are working with Zone_Labs on providing an official forum for the future, but it would not be fair to discuss the issues and reasons, other than to say it is not ready yet.

ZA has no trouble blocking connections that leave the localhost, or in other words, go out of your machine and into the internet. Local connections aren't a risk as far as I know. Smiley

As for AIM, I was one of those who reported AIM not asking for server rights and still working. And it still does this. But I also know why, and how it happens. I can use the IM function with just giving AIM internet rights, but if I should try file transfer... ZA pops up warning me about AIM trying to establish a server, and asks me what to do. If I allow it, I can transfer the file. If I choose to block it, AIM shows an error message and cannot transfer the file. In short, ZA works just as it should. Smiley Also, if I change my AIM preferences so that file transfers are allowed, AIM asks for server rights immediately upon starting it.

Again, in short, ZA works just fine.
